I removed the fuel pump to check to see if I should rebuild it again or buy a new one from either Macs or speedway. I noticed that the push rod as it sets in the bushing can wobble sideways about 3/16 of an inch at the top. I know the top is positioned by the rocker arm but does that constitue too much slop in the bushing? Also the pushrod is setting on something soft and springy. You can easily force it down by hand about 1/16 inch and it will resume the higher position when released. Could something be on the cam that doesn't belong there? When the pump was mounted the action was about 3/16 inch high.

THE FIT OF THE ROD TO THE BUSHING IS ALWAWS SLOPPY FROM THE FACTORY EVEN. nO IDEA WHY ITS GOT A SPRINGY ACTION. ken ct.

I guess I should take off the intake mfd to see what may be down inside the bushing. It's a relief to know that the push rod wobble is okay. Thanks ken. Jeff

Jeff, The view of the camshaft lobe is not much better with the intake off than it is with just the fuel pump stand and baffle removed. I would just remove the stand, baffle and rod to examine what is causing the spring back. Tom

I just put a long screw driver down the hole and twisted it to feel the bottom. Upon withdrawing it I found sludge on the blade. That must be the culprit. Thanks for your help too TomO. You would have saved me the work of removing the manifold.
