Topic: OD kickdown

Could somebody correct me if I am wrong but the way I understand it, when the kickdown switch is engaged it does two things- shorts the points to momentarily cut torque to the trans and at the same time cuts power to the solenoid to release the pin/pawl, at which time the OD releases- when the solenoid pin drops, I understand that this reestablishes the points/ignition circuit, even if the kickdown switch is still depressed- is this correct? Is this an internal switch in the OD? Thanks for any help here, no one in NH seems to know a thing about OD

Sorry, I meant to say is this an internal switch in the solenoid which reestablishes the ignition circuit? Thanks again!

The kickdown switch has four terminals. When in normal (not activated) position, it completes the circuit between the governor contacts and the control relay. When pushed,it connects the contacts in the solenoid with the distributor input. This happens so quickly, it only takes a half of a crankshaft revolution to work.

  Thank you!
