Trying to replace the trunk lid springs and having trouble with one of the center mounts. As I'm trying to replace the springs (w/new bolt kit), one of the nuts that are located inside the support bracket must have been cross-threaded. Thinking that it was old & rusted, I tried a little more pressure trying to unbolt the old spring, but ended up having the nut inside the support bracket turn. Any ideas as to how to prevent it from turning as I try to get the bolt out? There's no way that I can see to prevent it from turning. Many thanks!! WOW 48

If it's like my 46 sedan, these threaded "nuts" are in a vertical channel with 4 or 5 inches of room behind it. I would try to get hold of it with a small pair of vice grips, channel locks, or take a piece of 1/4" X 1" flat bar and bend it 90 degrees about 3/4" from the end and try to wedge the nut against the lip of the channel. Bought a set of springs and arms for the trunk lid of my '47 from Bob Drake. They are first class. If the springs are weak, it is almost certain the pivots in the arms are shot, too. Sure beats having your head conked when the lid falls without warning.

The back side of the "channel" is enclosed. There is a slight opening on the bottom (inside) of the channel, but it's not large enough to get any type of grip on the nut (that's probably cross-threaded). WOW 48

Your only alternative may be to remove the old bracket, fabricate a new one or get one off a donor car, and weld , bolt or rivet it in place.
