Anybody have experience with the install of some type of automatic transmission in a 50 "X" framed flathead V8 powered convertible?

We have a '51 convertible which has had a Fordomatic in it all its life.

I don't know of any reason why you couldn't use a 1951 Fordomatic set-up in your '50.

You wouldn't necessarily have to use the '51 Fordomatic steering column, but it might be a nice touch.

Whereabouts are you? There are lots of '51 parts here. I would be pleased to assist.

Go to this website; www.flat-o.com. This puts a C-4 automatic behind a flathead. It's the best kit on the market. I've installed two of them in earlier cars. The Fordomatic is a big heavy unit while the C-4 is lighter and smaller. I think the C-4 should easily clear the X member in your frame. If you want it to look close to stock on the inside you can use the automatic column from an early F-100 or Falcon. They are the two piece column like the 50, but has the indicator on the top of the column.
Just for info Speedway Motors also makes a kit to put the C-4 behind a flathead. I not sure how well their kit works.
