Topic: 1948 Ford V-8 engine decals

I am having my 1948 59AB engine rebuilt. I obtained some decals from C&G. One of these decals is for the cooling fan, to which you add oil. It is a black circle with yellow lettering which has written: Use SAE 20 Motor Oil Drain Excess lubricant by turning filler hole down.Where does the decal for the fan go, in the front? Is there any orientation? The other decals, for the Air Filter & the Oil Filter are pretty well described in the EFV-8 book on the 1941 - 48 Ford book, which I have a copy.

Thanks, Larry

Larry: The fan decal goes on the middle of one blade, facing forward, with the writing facing toward the center. That said, the info is just wrong. A later service bulletin required that transmission weight oil be used instead of the 20W. That hub is a real "Rube Goldberg" (that'll date me) contraption, to begin with. I finally gave up trying to keep it from becoming noisy and fabricated a ball bearing replacement. The problem was likely caused by the extra tight belt necessary to prevent slippage of the small pulley on my alternator.

Larry--The decals Ive seen are on the back side of one of the fan blades about 2 3/4" down from the top of the blade. I have a NOS fan and thats where the decal is placed on the blade. Also, use EP90 oil, not 20 wt to lube the fan. Ford changed the lube, but never made any changes to the decal or owners manual.. Tom..
