On the top irons, in addition to the two 3/16 holes on each side for mounting snaps for the canvas, there are two additional holes on each side shaped like an old fashion key hole, about 7/16 diameter with a 1/8" half round in the bottom. What is that all about? In pictures, that looks like the location of another snap. Carl

They are for the self releasing snap receptacles. They prevent the tearing of the top if you forget to release all snaps before lowering the top, and are sometimes omitted by installers unfamiliar with difference in snaps. Mine came from LeBaron Bonney, who supplied the high quality Hartz cloth top. I have a note to myself reminding me to release all snaps before lowering in case my old memory fails me. I slipped it between the header and the top where it can be easily seen.

Thanks supereal, I have Lebaron Bonney's top still in the box and want to be able to tell the professional installer what those holes are for if he asks.

Good luck, Carl. Having the top professionally installed is a very wise choice. I found my '47 seventeen years ago, and it was a virtual "basket case". The amount of time and effort, not to mention cash, has since been repaid with hours and miles of fun.

  Ah Supereal

Nice to finally see a picture of that raggity old Ford
you have been nursing along all these years.

Thank you! Coming from a guy with really classy iron, that is a real compliment. We are seeing temps in the 80's (!!!) here in Iowa, in March, no less, and I'm going to take her for a spin in honor of the occasion.
