Topic: Generator Adjusting Tool

A while back someone had a article in the V8 Times showing how to make a tool for adjusting the generator belt on a V8. Not sure which year it was used on but was able to be adapted for various years. Does anyone know which issue it was in?

We use a long screwdriver under the generator to adjust the tension. Place the end of the screwdriver or pry bar on the left side head, loosen the "big" nut, then lift the generator to provide about a half inch of "give" at the center of the belt. When adjusting that belt, remember that the fan belt pulley moves up and down with the generator, and must be loosened to adjust the generator belt, then the fan belt will need to be readjusted until there is no apparent slack, but not tightened so far as to damage the fan hub.

Thanks for the info on adjusting but I want to make the tool that was shown in the V8 Times. It was in an issue in the past 4 or 5 years. It was a flat steel bar with various holes in it as I recall.

I believe the article you are after was on page 18 of the January/February issue of the V8 TIMES, 2006. If you don't have that issue, I can scan it and post it for you. It is interesting, but seems to be overkill on a rather simple adjustment. When looking for a specific topic in the TIMES, consult the membership roster. These topics are listed by year, dates, and page in the front of the roster.

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for. Apreciate your effort.
