Hi folks, I just found out that the coolant level was low and the oil level was very high. I started to drain the oil and got about a quart of green coolant. I never started the engine but can anyone guess as to how the coolant got in the oil?

Unfortunately there are many ways for coolant to escape and end up in oil pan. The most favorable solution may be a failed gasket and the worst would be a cracked block. Which engine are we discussing? You may have to remove and inspect each removable component for failure. I'd start with the water pumps. This message was edited by jerry_356 on 4-22-24 @ 4:20 PM

Several items could cause coolant to be in your crankcase: Leaking head gasket Cracked head Cracked block "Wet" cylinder head bolt or stud If you want to get to the root of the problem and repair this condition properly, remove the heads and check the gaskets for leak paths. Hopefully you will find a problem with one of the head gaskets which can easily be replaced with a new one to fix the problem. Let us know what you find after removing the heads and we will advise of further actions to take if the problem is more serious. Of course if you just want to employ a Band-Aid solution and spend the bare minimum amount to just keep the car running before you tear the engine totally down to do a long lasting repair, you can add a can of Bars Stop Leak to the radiator to temporally fix the problem. Please let us know what you find.
