It's kind of hard to explain John, it basically clips over the raised portion of the top of the running board and the under side. There are no clips or glue, the tension holds it tight. Be careful when trying to remove it, they distort fairly easy. I pried the underside first about every 6" and it freed up.

I put a small chrome sheet metal screw in the front end of the running board trim. The repro trim did snap over the edge of the running board as mentioned above, but would start to come off as the car was driven. The small screw prevents the wind from starting the trim coming off, but doesn't detract from the appearance. I'm sure the original trim did snap on, but the thinner repro can and will come off.

Trim is installed by hooking the top of the trim in the slot on the running board then pushing the bottom under the running board. Tension should hold it, has mine for 70 years now.
