Acquired a 50 v-8 that has been sitting for 12 plus years since last run--engine will not turn--no signs of any wter leaks--crqnkcase oil looks ok----pulled plugs qand have been fillig cyls with Marvel for two weeks--still stuck--any suggestions other than time and patience???

part of the problem is knowing what position the crankshaft is in. If some pistons are all the way up, it would be hard to get any liquid to soak into them, especially if the engine is sitting level. you might consider putting on an engine stand if you haven't all ready and position it so the cyls. are level, and soak one bank at time.

Engine is still in the car and was hoping to avoid pulling it--will try soaking for a couple of more weeks--have used acetone and ATV on rusted bolts before with success--might try squirting some in with an oil can-- Thanks for suggestions

One thing you could try is filling each combustion chamber with kerosene through the spark plug holes, reinstalling the spark plugs, removing the carburetor, and pouring kerosene into the intake manifold until it is level with the bottom of the carburetor mounting surface. Allow the kerosene to set in the engine for two weeks or so. After that time remove all the spark plugs and attempt to rotate the crankshaft clockwise and counterclockwise manually with a breaker bar. Unless it is totally rusted up or suffering from mechanical interference it should free up.

it is more common to have a stuck valve with an engine that has been sitting and no amount of oil added to cylinders will help. pull the heads and check valves with a valve bar to see if they all are free. if you find any stuck ones you will probaly have to remove them as i doubt you can free them. this can be a real pain and if you are lucky you will have only one.

This does not sound like stuck valves to me. It is more likely to be the rings sticking in the cylinders. Keep soaking them and see what happens. If this doesn't work you are looking at pulling the heads and maybe the pan to free it up

I have seen this too many times, it only takes one lifter or valve stem. I had a 8BA sitting in a heated shop that ran 10yrs ago but now stuck. Removed heads, looked good checked valves two stuck so bad I needed torch to heat lifter bores and broke one lifter with a vise grip. And then we bought a 8BA that was outside uncovered for who knows how long (but it was upside down) in the woods. So one in heated shop that got stuck and one outside getting snowed on that turns over. Go figure ???? By the way, the one that was outside turned out to be all std. We ringed it, cam, rod, mains new pistons, valve job mellings pump, turned out to be the sweetest quietest for 75 bucks for the engine. sam

correct--will not move in either direction--continue to add oil to soak--has been three weeks now--will try for another week or so and then make a decision. Thanks all for the help

Finally got it broken loose and spins freely--changed oil, drained about 3gal of 12 year old stinky gasoline --blew out plugged up fuel line, cleaned plugs,filed and reset points that were not breaking--not suprisingly, fuel pump is not working--have new fuel pump coming--However, primed through the carb and the old dear fired up and ran ---with headers and glasspaks, she sounds really sweet--another Flathead lives again--!!!!!
