Anyone know more about this? An old friend sent this as a Facebook post.

I know that this particular '51 has a '52 hood!

Here's another, same color, almost identical condition, from Hemmings.

  Interesting vehicles.
I searched in James K. Wagner's book - Ford Trucks Since 1905 and saw no example of an extended cab pickup for these years. Mr. Wagner does show different and unusual models produced by the Ford Motor Company -- but not an extended cab during this time.
Now, that is not saying there were not examples created -- we all know that the goal of Ford Motor Company was to sell vehicles, so several special fleet vehicles were produced over the years.

Street rodders have been modifying/extending cabs like that since the extended cab concept came about in the mid-'70s.

Read the article in Hemmings. These are not built one-off by hotrodders, nor were they models offered by Ford. They were Coachbuilt, but it is unknown by which builder. You see many coach built vehicles on the road even today, such as stretches, and some you don't know are different, such as armor plated cars for CEOs of large corporations.

Hi Stroker, I remember seeing something about this somewhere. I think the military ordered some extended cabs. Perhaps it was the Navy (?). I'll have to do some research and will get back with you. Maybe this will jog some other minds. Keep us informed, as I bet a few others are scratching their heads. 42oink.
