Topic: electrical short 51 F1

My 51 PU has a 12 volt system with 6 volt orig. gauges. So, I have a voltage reducer feeding them. I have been through three voltage reducers, thinking that I have had three bad ones. I now believe there is an electrical fault (short) somewhere between the battery and the gauges. My new voltage reducer (VREG) has a 1 amp fuse, which just blew. How do I find out where the short is? Could it be in the gauges? They have all been rebuilt. Any help? Many thanks. Peter

the guages get 6v from the resistor and each sending unit supplys the ground with a range of resistance. The amp guage is wired in series positive to positive or the wire simply goes through a loop which is a pickup for induction. the amp guage does not get grounded. the sending units could be checked out for dead shorts where they connect to the guage.. harbor freight has cheap CHINA made voms ,, i hate recomending that,, or you could dis connect the three guages and then hook each one at a time. Disconect the 6 v coil while working with the key on for long perods of time
