Howdy from Arizona, My truck is a 1950,F2,3/4 ton and I am going to be doing an engine swap of a 351W in place of the original, good running 239 flathead v8 with an AOD tranny. That said, my question is: is there a possibility to install 3.54 gears in the original Timken rear axle? Or, what rear axle would be closest to a bolt-on with similar dimensions such as the axle width of which the original is 52" from inside backing plate to inside backing plate? All help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Backing plate to backing plate is not a good way to measure due to the different width of brakes. To be accurate you measure from wheel flange (where the wheel bolts onto the drum) to wheel flange. Next you should measure from the center of spring pad to spring pad. Take those measurements to your local dismantling yard and look at rear ends from late 60's to 70's Ford 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton trucks. You can probably change the gears in the original rear end, but that question might be best answered on one of the Ford truck forums.
