Anyone have any experience on doing a wooden floor of a '35 pickup box bed. Only supplier we've found is Mac's. What wood would be used, maple, oak etc etc

Did you check with Bruce Horkey or Northern Classic Trucks? Do a google search as both have websites.

I restored my 1934 pickup and used products from Macks-products out of Moberly, MO macks-products.com You can see a photo my pickup on Early Ford V8 web site in the photo gallery. I bought metal flooring, tailgate and front panel as well as the wooden sub floor. Very good quality and fit. Henry Henry Bhotto1928@aol.com

I've owned a 36, 38 & 40 since 1965. the flooring under the sheetmetal bed is typical softwood.

Am assisting a friend with this "basket case". Its a '35 body, '39 front and rear end with hydrolic brakes, not sure of transmission, engine he thinks is a '46 and is block with lower end and oil pan, no distributor nor intake on it, claims all parts are there (somewhere). Box has had the floor removed and he wants to put a wooden floor in it. Was this ever built with a wooden floor or were they always steel ? He took it into a shop, was given an estimate which now has tripled and over 5 months I dont think theres been 10 hrs of work done

To answer your question-- 1/2 ton pickups trucks came with metal pickup boxes. (except of course the 1/2 ton stakebed). Under the metal bed was wood panels. If you are looking for replacement parts try Mack Hils in Missouri. Many people do not replace the steel floor in an old pickup. They use a good grade of hardwood and the metal bed strips to finish the bed floor. Many like the looks of the finished wood bed.

I repainted the metal strips and used Home Depot red oak. this allows me to haul supplies without worrying I'm going to ruin expensive wood.

Total cost of the red wood planks $200. Some sanding paint and busted knuckles getting the whole thing in.
