sounds like a 4 speed non syncro transmission. extra spring leaves do not make it a 3/4 ton but a wheelbase of 122" can. from 1938 up, Ford did produce a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton truck-wheelbase 122" Does your truck have a 112" wheelbase, frame with a X cross member ,enclosed driveshaft? if so 1/2 ton. 122" frame with open driveline is a 3/4 or 1 ton truck-would require more info to determine which

My 1939 122 inch tonner has an enclosed drive line, parallel rear springs and 17 inch wheels. Also the gas tank is under the seat in the cab.

40 was a change year for Ford trucks--went to open driveline on 3/4 ton and up, ladder bar frame, still has gas tank under seat
