  Hi Team,
I'm new to the Flathead world. Ive found an Engine & gearbox with the stampings 501483F (see Photo),

Can any one enlighten me to year and etc etc - I have been trying to make head n tail of the Vanpelt site information.

Appreciated

take some more pictures, show us the heads, trans, intake. those numbers should have had a star followed by 18-, or 99-. this engine could have been for machinery of some sort

Appreciate the feedback, I visited the prospective seller, and unless I turn up next time with the cash I suspect I wont get through the gate. It had 24 bolt heads and the distributor was "not" the crab claw type - it was quite accessible...

If the distributor is up top and has the round cap and the top water necks are at the front of the heads it's most likely a 1949 to '53 motor.

I would guess that it would fall in the range of Aussie serial numbers for the 1950 Ford. Maybe one of our Down-Under friends can shed some light on this.
