I know that Ford made ground straps woven but why do they need to be? Mine are made out of battery cable.

The woven cables are made from steel wire, and are woven in order to carry all of the current and dissipate the heat better. Copper battery cables will work just as well as they do a better job of carrying current. Tom

Functionality versus originality (are you submitting the car for judging or if not, do you have a preference for either?). Your call - both will work more than adequately well on a properly grounded and functioning electrical system (headlight brightness, charging, etc.). Steve

I am not going for originality. I make my own cables and I have plenty of cable well sized and colored properly for the application. In addition to the cooling aspect, was the woven steel ground cable cheaper to manufacture for Ford? Thanks

Steel wire has been less expensive to buy for many years. I should add that there have been copper braided cables available. The advantage is better heat dissipation and more flexibility.
