I need wiper arms for my 39, I've seen no Mercury specific listing in any of the usual aftermarket catalogs, so while I continue to look for original used or nos, does anyone know if they would be the same as 39 Ford? Shoebox

They are not the same as the 39 Ford, but you can use the 40 Ford arms. They are shorter than the Mercury arms and stick up in the corners when they are at rest. I haven't seen any aftermarket ones since the late 1950s. We used to change them over to the 42-48 arms with a kit. The 40-47 pickup arms look just like the 39 and 40 Merc arms,but they have 01C prefix in the parts catalog. I don't know if they will work. They may be longer or shorter than the Merc arms. I had Ficken make me 2 back in the 1970's. I don't know if he still has the parts or pattern to make more. I would try some of the recyclers that say that they have 39 and 40 Mercury parts. They advertise in the Mercury section of Hemmings. I measured the wiper arms on my 40 and they are 9.5" from end to end. The pickup arms being reproduced are 10.5". Westcott says that the arms can be shortened with "modest effort" Here is a link to their site and contact information. www.wescottsauto.com Send them an E-Mail asking for information on shortening the arm.
