Topic: 1951 Steering Column

  Hello,

I have a 1951 Mercury standard shift. I am looking for an upper column rebuild kit, or a whole column at this stage, the “inner” shift tube broke and I welded one up but there are parts that are worn and need replacing so it will shift. I think there are parts missing but not sure, would anyone have a parts diagram? I have an original shop manual but the view isn't complete enough to see.

Thanks,

Marc

Here is a drawing from the parts catalog. This catalog is available from Rock Auto on CD.

Here is a link to all of the retailers that sell Detroit Iron CDs.

Place a parts wanted ad on this site's Classifieds and the The Ford Barn's Swap meet area. Check with recyclers that are parting out Mercurys. Use Hemmings to find them.

If you are referring to P/Ns OL 16210 and OL 16211 they were available for all 50 and 51 cars except the Station Wagon. They were installed more often on Convertibles and Montereys and very seldom on the other models.
