Topic: Lincoln- Mercury door latch assembly

Hello to all and Happy Holidays. What I would like to know is, will the '49 Lincoln (small body, like the Merc.) front door latch fit and work in the '49 Mercury's?? Are they inter-changeable??
Thank you for your input. Have a great day.

I don't have the Body Parts catalog for that year. If you are restoring a 49 Mercury, I would order the CD rom with the chassis and body parts catalogs.

Thank you Tom. I have both the Mercury (broken) and the good, used Lincoln door latch in my shop and they look the same except where the door handle pin hits the opening latch arm, the one on the Lincoln is straight and longer. The mounting and locking part are the same on both. I am afraid to try the Lincoln, should I break the outside door handle as they are very hard to find.

I am sorry that I cannot give you any further help on this problem. Both the 49 Mercury and Lincoln are hard to find parts for and I have not restored either one.

Try contacting Gene Napoliello in VT. He is the V-8 Club's 49-51 Mercury Adviser. He may know how to make the interchange or be able to refer you to someone who can help you.

Also check here; www.classicmercury.com. This guy has been into Mercs for a long time.

My anti-virus program will not allow me to go to that page.

Interesting TomO. I can get right to that page. I know it's not X rated!
