Topic: 1939 Mercury Heater

shoebox    -- 09-06-2014 @ 6:24 AM
I just acquired a very original 39 4 door. It is missing it's heater. I am advertising for one in the classifieds here and elsewhere, but I am having trouble even locating a picture of what I am looking for. Anyone have a pic (or better yet a heater) ??

Thanks !!!!!

Scott

The 39 Mercury hot water heater is the same as the 39 Ford hot water heater. I have attached a photo of the 40 heater which is similar in design.

The 39 heater will have a stop on the case to keep the left hand door from opening all of the way and the knobs will be rectangular vs the rounded ones on the 40. It will also have a solid kick shield for the lower hose, vs the slotted on for the 40. The 39 knobs are slightly longer than the 40 knobs. The 39 heater is painted a dark brown.

The 39 hot water heater is difficult to find. There are many more 1940 hot water heaters available than for the 39. I suggest checking salvage yards that are parting out cars.

Kube may have a photo of a correct 39 hot water heater. There was an article on the hot water heaters for the 39 and 40 Fords in the late 1980's or early 1990's. You can use the searchable index to find the issues and check with the Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum to see if that issue is available.

The hot air heater for the 39 Mercury is the same as the Ford, except for the interior parts.

  TomO,
You had the answer (and pic) regarding my question about Choke and Throttle cables over on the Barn and now coming through regarding my quest regarding what a 39 heater looks like. DOUBLE THANK YOU!

I will update my WTB add with this pic, but..... if anyone has a 39 - 40 Ford or Merc heater, please replay here or 608-526-9199

If you read my complete post, the 40 heater differs from the 39 heater. If I remember correctly, putting 39 knobs on 40 doors, requires filling the holes in the doors and drilling new ones. This will do for the casual observer, but will be detected if you intend to have the car judged.

Send me a PM if you want a 40 hot water heater.
