We are working on a '53 capri. The engine is now done and painted Lincoln blue/green but the transmission that is in the car has never been painted. It has the L53 blue ford tag on it. I am assuming the transmission was replaced somewhere along the line with the correct hydromatic. Does anyone know if the transmission on this car was originally painted, and if so, what color? Thanks for your help

Most, if not all, of the automatics I've seen are not painted, and remain the color of the casting. This contrasts with the usual practice of painting the engine and transmission as a unit before installation at the factory.
