Somewhere I read that there was no "Ford script" or part number on the 40's...whats correct

I had my 40 at the National Meet and Judged. They did not want the red letters on the hoses. 46 had the red letters on the hoses. That what the Judges said. If you had red letters on the hoses you lost points.

The first hoses to be marked began around December 2, 1944.
Thus, none of the hoses on your '40 should have any identification upon them.

Mike said thinner will take off the red scrip off the hoses. Mike why don't you tell us that the simple things that you found wrong on most 40 Fords. Like the red on the radiator hoses.

  Ken,
There are a number of things that are commonly found incorrect on many '40 Fords. I am confident once my book is published, there will be no reasons remaining for oversights to occur.
One thing I seem to find myself explaining to many particiapnts upon the concourse is "Do not rely on reproduction parts to be correct simply beacuse the seller of those parts claims them to be".

Mike, that goes for all years, and most sellers, including the most respected suppliers. While it might be tempting to rely on what the seller says is correct, at the end of the day, it's the restorer who should have done his own research.
